Burns, the State Department arrived to return the art to its rightful owner. When Grampa and Bart retrieved the art from Mr. Decades later, Montgomery Burns, the second surviving member of the unit, tried to murder Grampa in order to get the art, prompting Grampa to violate the tontine. The Flying Hellfish formed a tontine and buried the art in a trunk at sea. At the very end of the war in Europe, Grampa's unit "liberated" a stash of priceless art from surrendering German forces. Grampa is a veteran of World War II, where he served as Master Sergeant of the Flying Hellfish unit. His age remains the same over the years, therefore, he has been a member of the Interbellum Generation, Greatest Generation, and now the Silent Generation. He is known for his long, rambling, often incoherent and irrelevant stories and senility. Grampa Simpson is a World War II veteran and retired farmer who was later sent to the Springfield Retirement Castle by Homer.

In the 1,000th issue of Entertainment Weekly, Grampa was selected as the "Grandpa for The Perfect TV Family". He is the paternal grandfather of Bart, Lisa and Maggie Simpson. Grampa Simpson is voiced by Dan Castellaneta, who also voices his son, Homer Simpson. He made his first appearance in the episode entitled " Grandpa and the Kids", a one-minute Simpsons short on The Tracey Ullman Show, before the debut of the television show in 1989.

Gramps pays homage to all the elders and promises to provide the highest quality of care while surrounded and supported by a community of family love and laughter. We were blessed to renovate the family home, and open Gramps Assisted Living. Gramps recognized the need for compassionate, individualized, and high-quality care in the senior community. The remaining members of the Lokeman family share their happy memories of growing up here.
